Chattering Class

This week's Great British banter

Oat milk

Maximum virtuous misery points available

"Totes" and "onesie" added to the OED

Devastating

Cassava crackers

The middle-class nibble du jour

Try putting the emphasis on "are" of "how are you?"

It sounds more sincere. (NB. only try this if prepared for a genuine answer)

Anything 24/7/365

Annoying x4

Writing "Hello everyone!" or some such first thing in the morning on Twitter

Really not necessary

My Family was not dropped for being too middle-class

We knew it

Fountain pen sales on the rise

Hurrah! Long live the lovely schooly fountain pen

Opening the train carriage window?

Just check first if there's one of those passengers who likes to bicker, and have a response ready

Loud, open-mouthed, squelchy gum chewing

Unacceptable

The new multi-nationalism of Last Night of the Proms; a jolly good thing, really

Did anyone else, I wonder, note the wide range of flags being waved in the Albert Hall and Hyde Park on during the Last Night of the Proms on Saturday? Watching on television I counted flags from German, the EU, Uruguay, Japan, Cornwall, Ireland, Canada, Wales, Scotland, Switzerland, Brazil - and one very large Union Jack in shades of pink. Of course the conventional Union flags were dominant, but it seemed an interesting and modern development to see people from many different countries taking part in what has traditionally been a theatrical show of patriotism. I suppose it's mostly a tourism thing, but there's something cheering about people celebrating their own sense of nationality under the banner of someone else's. It also encourages those who believe that left alone to get on with it, people of different nations rub along together without too much friction.
